Design and Facilitation of a National Dialogue on Community Based Adaptation (CBA) and Vertical Integration

CBA SCALE+ Project – Zambia

The Community Based Adaptation Scaling Community Action for Livelihood and Ecosystems in Southern Africa and Beyond (CBA SCALE+) project works with local authorities, communities, and policymakers in Mozambique, Zambia, and Zimbabwe to scale up community-based adaptation approaches that are nature-based, gender-responsive, and fair. In Zambia, CBA SCALE+ is implemented by CARE Zambia with national and sub-national partners. The project works alongside communities and decision-makers through a participatory, integrated approach to support community-based adaptation planning and implementation and to ensure that policies, plans, and resources support CBA actions at scale over the longer term. The project aims to enable 66,000 people in Zimba district to better cope with climate-related risks. It is supporting communities in Zambia to develop and implement locally tailored, inclusive, gender-responsive, and nature-based CBA actions, while generating evidence and lessons to inform policy, financing, and scaling efforts. The project will support two national dialogues to strengthen coordination mechanisms and linkages between national and sub-national adaptation decision-makers, policies, planning processes, and financing mechanisms. The dialogues will be developed in close collaboration with relevant government institutions and will build, where possible, on existing government-led platforms, coordination mechanisms, and consultation processes.
