Tapera Joy Mbewe is a legal and compliance professional with over two years of experience in regulatory compliance, governance, and risk management. She currently serves as Compliance Officer at CCAL, where she built and manages the firm’s internal compliance framework, including AML/CFT controls, client due diligence, and risk assessments under Zambia’s Financial Intelligence Centre Act. She holds a Master’s Degree in International Business Law (LLM) and a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from Cavendish University Zambia, and is trained in ISO 37301:2021 Compliance Management Systems.

Selected professional experience

  • Tapera established and manages the firm's internal compliance framework, including policies, procedures, internal controls, and reporting structures. She developed compliance procedures aligned with the Financial Intelligence Centre Act and AML/CFT requirements, and conducts client due diligence, KYC verification, and risk-based client risk assessments, including enhanced due diligence for higher-risk clients. She leads compliance risk assessments, maintains compliance risk registers, prepares compliance reports for management, and delivers compliance training and awareness sessions to staff on AML/CFT obligations and ethical standards. Alongside this, she provides legal research, drafting, and advisory support on corporate, commercial, and regulatory matters.
  • Previously, as Legal Compliance Assistant at Healthing Hand Foundation (June 2023 – 2024), she provided legal and compliance advisory support to ensure organisational compliance with applicable laws and donor guidelines, reviewed policies and agreements for legal and funding compliance, and advised management on regulatory matters and risk mitigation
